How Tos: Quick and Simple Ideas

How to take your own body measurements by yourself

Follow this video for your self-measurement session.

Tips:

  • For accurate results, you will need to wear a perfect bra, a top with sleeves, and a skirt that fits you nicely or a dress with sleeves and a waist seam.
  • You will also need a tall mirror to guide you along with a standard measurement tape.
  • Always start from the metallic tip of the measurement tape.
  • You can use either inches or centimeters annotation of the measurement tape.
  • Record the numbers that you get. Try not to add any ease to the measurements as precision is key for this exercise.
  • There are two groups of measurements, which are the horizontal balanced lines and the vertical balanced lines.

How to obtain perfectly flat seam lines

Have you ever been frustrated trying to obtain perfectly flat seam lines when sewing a garment?

In this short video we would like to show you how to effectively iron your seams when sewing a garment. It is extremely easy and quick.

In order to do this you need a nice iron board with a cushion, a steam iron, and a magical piece of wood called the tailor’s clapper, but if you don’t have one handy, do what we did and find a piece of wood at a local supply store. Lets get started!

STEP1:

  • Open the seam, wrong side up and start ironing it.
  • Before moving on, make sure that this is your final stitch.
  • Once you use this technique, if you want to unstitch, it will be virtually impossible for you to get rid of the lines created, no matter how hard you press it back. This is proof that this technique really works!

STEP2:

Now press the seam with steam.

Quickly remove the iron while it’s still steamy and hot, apply the wooden piece on the seam and hold it for 5 seconds, then release.

Note:

Repeat the same process on the other side of the fabric.
